Winter season in Podhorní cottage: skiing and extraordinary experiences!

Do you love skiing, but you do not enjoy busy centres and long queues for ski lifts? Come and enjoy the winter in Podhorní cottage! Take advantage of the beautiful, maintained cross-country ski routes or try the Ski Area Mariánky with two ski slopes and its unique cable car, the oldest of its type in the Czech Republic. On top of this, you can see the best of Czech architecture and treat the tired body with wellness treatments in nearby Mariánské Lázně.

Cross-country skiing trails

In the surroundings of Milhostov, Zádub and Mariánské Lázně, can be found about a hundred kilometres of cross-country skiing trails, from which more than 90% are double trails. When conditions are good, you can choose from 5 basic circular trails and ski not only around the Royal golf course area, but also to the haunted pension Nimrod and the romantic gamekeeper’s lodge in Rájov or the frequently visited nature reserve Kladská.

Ski area Mariánky

Within the ski area, there are two maintained ski slopes. A shorter ‘slalom’ slope, 250 m long, contains red and black runs for advanced skiers and 700 m long blue run, ‘Krakonoška’, is suitable for beginners. There is also a training slope for the ski and snowboard school with a ski lift with a low tow-rope. We cannot forget to mention the unique cable car, which is a technical rarity and it is the oldest one of its type in the Czech Republic. The ski slopes, which use artificial snow, are maintained daily including Saturdays and Sundays. The whole area is lit, so you can enjoy the popular evening skiing. The ski complex includes a refreshment kiosk (there is also a restaurant in the vicinity), ski hire and ski repairs, children’s park, toilets and carpark.

Boheminium

The popular miniature-park Boheminium, which amongst the most visited attractions in the Karlovy Vary region, is now open all year round. Therefore, you can see models of the most well-known Czech buildings, made to the scale 1:25, even in a romantic snowy winter landscape. Besides the miniatures, a park with sculptures of fairy tale characters and a game park with a view tower awaits visitors on Krakonoš hill. You can get to Boheminium by bus, by car or on foot (circa 20 min), the park is situated in the vicinity of the ski area.

Wellness, gastronomy and culture in Mariánské Lázně

Mariánské Lázně, circa 5 km from Podhorní cottage, belongs to destinations, where the season does not finish with the end of summer. A wide choice of spa and wellness treatments is accompanied by a number of cultural events. Do not miss a performance of the oldest symphonic orchestra in the Czech Republic and also visit the charming premises of the Municipal Theatre, which will celebrate its 150th year anniversary in 2018. Not only a museum, but also a gallery and Geological park is ‘hidden’ under the sign ‘Goethův Dům’ (Goethe’s house). It is located in the oldest building of the historical spa zone and visitors can see amongst other things the original Goethe’s flat, interesting displays about the local springs and famous visitors to Mariánské Lázně. And if you like to better your holiday with a gastronomic experience, you can choose from several well-known gourmet restaurants.
